Step 1: Open Apple Mail
Launch the Apple Mail application on your Mac.
If this is your first time setting up an email account, you’ll see a welcome screen. If not, go to Mail > Add Account from the top menu.
Step 2: Choose Account Type
Select Other Mail Account and click Continue.
Enter the following details:
Full Name: Your name as you want it to appear in emails.
Email Address: Your full email address (e.g.,
yourname@mydomain.co.za
).Password: Your email account password.
Click Sign In.
Step 3: Configure Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)
On the next screen, you’ll need to manually enter the incoming and outgoing mail server details.
For the Incoming Mail Server, enter the following:
Account Type: Select IMAP.
Mail Server:
mail.mydomain.co.za
Username: Your full email address (e.g.,
yourname@mydomain.co.za
).Password: Your email account password.
Port:
993
Use SSL: Check the box to enable SSL.
Step 4: Configure Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
For the Outgoing Mail Server, enter the following:
Mail Server:
mail.mydomain.co.za
Username: Your full email address (e.g.,
yourname@mydomain.co.za
).Password: Your email account password.
Port:
465
Use SSL: Check the box to enable SSL.
Click Sign In.
Step 5: Verify Account Settings
Apple Mail will verify your account settings. If everything is correct, you’ll see a confirmation screen.
Choose the apps you want to use with this account (e.g., Mail, Notes, Contacts) and click Done.
Step 6: Test Your Setup
Send a test email to ensure the outgoing server is working.
Check if you can receive emails to confirm the incoming server is set up correctly.
Troubleshooting Tips
Incorrect Password: Double-check your email password.
SSL Issues: Ensure SSL is enabled for both incoming (port 993) and outgoing (port 465) servers.
Firewall/Network Restrictions: If you’re on a restricted network, ensure ports 993 and 465 are open.
